Dr. Shungo Hiroyasu is a Specialist in the Department of Gastroenterology at the Medcare Hospital Al Safa. He graduated in Medicine from Japan’s National Defense Medical College, then took early retirement from service as a surgeon-major to become a faculty at the University of the Ryukyus, in Japan teaching gastroenterological surgery. He further ameliorated his academic credentials by pursuing advanced scientific research in transplant immunology in the United States at the University of Pennsylvania and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is privileged to be a Postdoctoral Fellow of the American Heart Association, a Fellow of the Japanese Surgical Society and a Fellow of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery.
Dr. Hiroyasu is a Japanese Board-certified gastroenterological surgeon who specialises in curing and preventing gastrointestinal disease, identifies the cause of patients’ abdominal symptoms and pursues follow-up consultations for chronic conditions. He is currently focused on introducing the Japanese system of preventive medicine in the field of gastroenterology to UAE. He has brought forward advanced techniques of the most tolerable gastroscopy and colonoscopy while a patient is awake or under light sedation—a popular technique in Japan. Colorectal cancer is rapidly increasing and becoming one of the most prevalent cancers in the region as the infection rate of Helicobacter Pylori, a bacterium inducing gastric cancer, is quite high in the Middle East.
He has successfully treated patients suffering from GORD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease). acid reflux, bloating, chronic constipation, gallbladder disease, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), upper gastrointestinal conditions (oesophagus and stomach), gastric (stomach) ulcers, heartburn, hiatus hernia, and those having non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. He is an expert at colon cancer screening.
Dr. Hiroyasu spends his leisure time travelling, listening to music, and watching soccer games. He also likes photography and computer programming. He speaks both English and Japanese fluently.
