Obstetrics & Gynaecology

The medical discipline of obstetrics and gynaecology combines the two subspecialties of

  1. obstetrics covers pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period
  2. and gynaecology, which focus on the health of the female reproductive system, including the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts

Postgraduate training programs for both specialties are typically combined to prepare the practicing obstetrician-gynaecologist to be skilled at both the care of the health of female reproductive organs and the management of pregnancy,

Our Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department

The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Medcare’s hospitals in Dubai and Sharjah provide the region with excellence in women's healthcare. From pre-reproductive and pre-conception care through childbearing and post-menopausal years, we offer a broad range of services that cover various areas of a woman’s healthcare, taking into account each woman’s specific needs and offering expert treatment appropriately.

When should you consult with an Obstetrician & Gynaecologist?

The American Pregnancy Association advises scheduling your first prenatal appointment with your obstetrician-gynaecologist within eight weeks of your last menstrual period.

Every pregnancy and every baby are unique; starting out with the greatest care and adhering to your doctor’s recommendations for prenatal care, including regular appointments, are therefore essential to your health and the health of your unborn child.

Moreover, women are generally advised to consult with a gynaecologist once a year beginning around the age of 15, to get a thorough annual check-up beginning around the age of 21, and to get tested for cervical cancer periodically after that.

Here are a few signs and circumstances that call for an immediate visit to the gynaecologist.

  •  Atypical period pain
  • Vaginal bleeding
  • Sex-related concerns
  • Swelling and soreness around the vagina.
  • Breast concerns

Procedures and Treatments under Obstetrics & Gynaecology Care

Our obstetricians and gynaecologists in Dubai & Sharjah treat a wide range of conditions that affect women. Infertility, hysterectomy, menopause, and pregnancy symptoms are a few of these conditions.

Other treatments include, but are not limited to,

  • Cryosurgery for the Cervix: performed in case of symptomatic cervical ectropion causing vaginal spotting or recurrent infections. The procedure is done after Pap smear evaluation of the cervix, and in some cases a cervical biopsy.  One technique that might be advised is cervical cryosurgery. A portion of the cervix is frozen during this highly effective gynaecological treatment [1].
  • Colposcopy: The cervix, vagina, and vulva can all be more thoroughly examined with a colposcopy, a non-surgical diagnostic procedure. When a person has a Pap smear that is abnormal, further evaluation is needed. A healthcare professional performs the procedure while using a colposcope, a magnifying device and applies special solutions to reveal abnormalities. During this process, if anything seems concerning, targeted biopsy is collected [2].
  • LEEP Procedure: When cervical biopsy reveals abnormal cells, a medical professional may advise a loop electrosurgical excision technique. The method involves cutting away the aberrant tissue with a thin, electrically charged wire loop. The procedure has both diagnostic and therapeutic value. The quick operation might be done in a doctor's office while being given local anaesthetic[3].
  • Pelvic Laparoscopy: it is a minimal invasive procedure to inspect and operate on pelvic organs. By using a few small incisions, a camera (laparoscope) and surgical instruments are inserted inside the abdomen and numerous of procedures can be performed without a necessity of open surgery techniques. Gynaecological conditions treated via laparoscopy are endometriosis, uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, pelvic organ prolapse and also a procedure called a tubal ligation for permanent birth control.

if you refer to pelvic laparoscopy, then we can not tell about a gall bladder surgery or any thoracic (this is not laparoscopy at all) procedures. If you want to write about laparoscopy in general then you can mention abdominal and pelvic procedures
