Prof. Dr. Robert Hierner

Prof. Dr. Robert Hierner is a Consultant Plastic and Hand surgeon at Medcare Orthopaedics & Spine Hospital. He has impeccable credentials, having studied at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München for his MBBS and at the Claude Bernard University in Lyon, France, for his University Studies Certificate (AEU) in Experimental and Clinical Microsurgery Techniques. He has two German Board Certifications, one in Plastic Surgery and one in Hand Surgery. He has to his credit a Certificate Education Programme in ‘Tendon Transfers in Reconstructive Tetraplegia Hand Surgery’ and a University Diploma in Barioplastic Surgery from the Université Descartes in Paris, France. He is a member of the Association of German Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (VDAEPC), operating under the umbrella of the prestigious German Society of Plastic, Reconstructive, and Aesthetic Surgeons (DGPRÄC). He is also a member of the German Society for Hand Surgery (DGH), the German Society for Burn Medicine (DGV), the German Society for Trauma Surgery (DGU), and the World Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery Group for the Advancement of Microsurgery (GAM), the German Society for Orthopaedics and Traumatology (DGOT), the Professional Association of German Surgeons (BDC) and the German University Association. He is also a part of the German-speaking Working Group for Microsurgery of Peripheral Nerves and Vessels (DAM).
Prof. Dr. Hierner is one of the most distinguished German board-certified Specialists in Plastic, Aesthetic, and Regenerative Surgery, as well as Hand Surgery and Medicine in Germany. He has spent more than three decades working across the globe, including Germany, France, Belgium and the USA. During his initial years, he practised as a Consultant in Plastic Surgery at the Clinic for Plastic, Hand and Reconstructive Surgery, Burn Centre attached to the University Hospital Hannover, Germany. After that, he joined the Shriners Hospital for Children at Massachusetts General Hospital, USA, as a Senior Research Fellow. Then he moved to Belgium, where he spent considerable time, first as the Head of Department, Consultant Plastic Surgery, Consultant Hand Surgery, Consultant Burns at University Hospital Gasthuisberg, then as Director of the Educational programme (Stagemeester) “Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery” of the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium and as Member of the National Educational Board “Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery”, Chair and Professor of Plastic Surgery, Head of Department of Reconstructive Surgery, Nationaal Multiple Sclerose Centrum in Melsbroeck, Belgium. Later, he joined the University Hospital in Essen, Germany as the Head of Department, Consultant Plastic Surgery, Consultant Hand Surgery, Director of the Educational program “Plastic Surgery”, Chair and Professor of Plastic Surgery. In Germany, he also worked at Traum Hospitals Bergmannstrost Halle, the Bethanien Hospital and Foundation Moers and Johanniter Hospital Duisburg-Rheinhausen as the Head of the Department and Consultant in Plastic Surgery, Bariplastic Surgery, and Hand Surgery. Additionally, he founded ‘El Quetzal,’ a plastic and aesthetic surgery practice located in Moers, Germany. Subsequently, he moved to the Middle East to work as a Consultant Plastic Surgery, Bariplastic Surgery, and Hand Surgery at the Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group’s Takhassusi Hospital in Riyadh, followed by similar positions at Saudi-German Hospital Dubai and Jumeirah, the Dubai Cosmetic Surgery Clinic, the Fakeeh University Hospital Dubai, the Adam Vital Hospital Dubai, Cosmeclic Clinic, Muscat, Oman, the Atelier Clinic, Dubai and the Al Tadawi Medical Centre, Dubai. Additionally, he is an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Sharjah.
Prof. Dr. Hierner’s expertise covers the advanced rejuvenation treatments of the hand, arm, fingers and elbow. With over three decades of experience and 10,000 successful surgeries, he sets the standard for excellence, quality, and expertise. He mentors and teaches many academic courses for medical students, resident physicians and continuing medical education (CME). He has numerous publications and presentations facilitating industry best practices in advancing quality patient care, including editing standard textbooks – Plastic Surgery in 5 volumes and Hand Surgery in 2 volumes. He is an author and researcher focused on ⁠vascularized bone transplantation, ⁠peripheral nerve surgery, ⁠multidisciplinary patient care, ⁠automated patient documentation, and ⁠quality management in plastic and hand surgery.
