Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist


Dr Aqeel Ahmed Farooque is a UK-trained Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist with extensive experience in the diagnosis and management of endocrine disorders in children and adolescents. After his MBBS from Bangalore University, India, he subsequently undertook his postgraduate paediatric training in the United Kingdom, where he was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Paediatrics and later elected Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH), UK.

As part of his higher specialist paediatric training in the UK, Dr Farooque completed three years of subspecialty training in Paediatric Endocrinology at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and other leading tertiary centres across the West Midlands, forming the core of his endocrinology practice. This training was further complemented by advanced training in key areas of paediatric endocrinology at the University of Birmingham and Cambridge University Hospital.

During his 15-year UK career, Dr Farooque held consultant appointments at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust. He later continued his consultant practice in Saudi Arabia before relocating to the UAE. Prior to joining Medcare, he served as Head of the Paediatric Diabetes & Endocrinology Unit at Al Qassimi Women’s & Children’s Hospital, a tertiary children’s hospital, where he strengthened specialised services for children across the Northern Emirates over eight years.

Dr Farooque’s work has been recognised for excellence in both patient experience and service development. He has received an NHS patient experience award in the UK and a Quality Improvement Award in the UAE for his innovative insulin pump service. 

He is known for combining evidence-based medicine with clear, compassionate communication, supporting children and families in managing both acute and long-term endocrine conditions.

He is an Assistant Professor at the University of Sharjah, where he teaches on the MSc Diabetes programme, and is a frequent national and international speaker at medical conferences. He remains actively involved in professional paediatric endocrinology forums in the UAE and currently chairs the Dubai Paediatric Endocrinology Club. 

Outside clinical practice, he enjoys trekking and exploring the application of artificial intelligence in medical education. He speaks English, Arabic, and Urdu.
