Dr. Fathelrahman Ahmed is a Consultant in Endocrinology at Medcare Hospital, Sharjah. He completed his MBBS from the University of Khartoum in Sudan. He holds a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) from the UK, an SAC Diploma in Diabetes Mellitus and a Diploma in Endocrinology & Diabetes from Queen Mary University of London (QMUL). Additionally, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP), Edinburgh and trained at Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism (OCDEM). He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP), UK, the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI) and  the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in Endocrinology & Diabetes.
Dr. Ahmed has work experience spanning Sudan, the UK and the UAE. During the early years of his career, he worked at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford and at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as a Specialty Registrar and then at Stoke Mandeville Hospital as an Endocrinologist & General Internal Medicine Specialist. He later became a Physician Consultant at Scarborough General Hospital. He was a Consultant Endocrinologist at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Ashford and St. Peter's Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust before relocating to the UAE. Here, he worked with IBHO Hospital as a Consultant Endocrinologist.
Dr. Ahmed has extensive experience in managing diabetes, including complex cases, acute complications, and multidisciplinary expertise that involves working closely with specialties such as hepatology, nephrology, cardiology, surgery, and transplant teams. He is experienced in managing endocrine and metabolic conditions in patients with complex medical needs, including myocardial infarction, stroke, and patients requiring enteral and parenteral nutrition. He is skilled in diagnosing and treating a wide range of hormonal disorders, including thyroid, adrenal, pituitary, and parathyroid conditions and manages metabolic disorders such as lipid disorders, metabolic syndrome, and bone diseases. He treats diabetes (type 1 & 2, gestational diabetes), high cholesterol and metabolic syndrome, underactive or overactive thyroid, thyroid nodules, disorders of adrenal, pituitary, and parathyroid glands. His expertise includes the treatment of osteoporosis, rare hormone-related conditions, including neuroendocrine tumours, and hormonal and metabolic care for patients with complex conditions (heart, kidney, liver, or post-surgery care.
Dr. Ahmed is passionate about teaching and training medical students and junior doctors, including assessments and mentorship. He keeps himself updated with continuous quality improvement initiatives and has research experience in evidence-based medicine. He speaks Arabic and English.
