Dr Fathima Thasneem is a specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Medcare Women and Children Hospital with expertise in Laparoscopy and Minimally Invasive Surgery. She is credited with establishing the first comprehensive Gynaecologic Laparoscopy department in Cooperative Sector in North Kerala providing expert and modern care for Endometriosis, Fibroids and Ovarian pathologies.
She obtained her MBBS from the Government Medical College at Kozhikode, followed by MS in Obstetrics & Gynaecology from Kerala University of Health Sciences, both in Kerala, India. Additionally, she is a Diplomate of the National Board (DNB), India and holds a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery from Sunrise Hospital in Kochi, India.
She completed a training in Advanced Infertility Treatment conducted by the Federation of Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) at the Centre for Infertility Management & Assisted Reproduction (CIMAR) in Edappal, India. Additionally, she trained in Advanced Laparoscopy and Radical Hysterectomy at Galaxy Hospital, Pune, received a University Gold Medal in Postgraduate Exam in OBG at the Kerala University Of Health Sciences, the Kalyanikutty Amma Memorial Gold Medal at the All Kerala Conference in OBG and the TrailBlazer Award from the Kerala Federation of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a member of the Indian Association of Gynaecological Endoscopists, the Indian Fertility Society and the Federation of Gynaecological Societies of India (Kerala).
Dr. Thasneem began her medical journey as a Junior Resident in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at MES Medical College, and later served as a Junior Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Vijayalakshmi Medical Centre in Kochi, India. During her Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at Sunrise Hospital in Kochi, she garnered rich experience. Later, she served as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Laparoscopic Surgeon at the Kozhikode District Co-operative Hospital where she was instrumental in establishing the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery and has the credit of conducting more than 1000 complex gynaecological laparoscopic surgeries. She also worked at the Matria Hospital before relocating to the UAE.
Dr. Thasneem has spent more than a decade practising in Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She is passionate about gynaecological laparoscopy as it enhances surgical precision and outcomes. She believes that the psychological benefits of having minimal scarring are often as significant as the physical benefits. Dr Thasneem 's special interest and expertise includes pelvic organ prolapse surgeries like the mesh repair for urinary incontinence, uterine prolapse, vault prolapse, reproductive surgeries, including ectopic pregnancy, fibroids and ovarian cysts, endometriosis and urogynaecology. Her excellent planning and leadership skills are evident in the major conferences that she has organised in addition to being an instructor at Gynaec Endoscopy Training Programme for postgraduates students.
In her spare time, she enjoys travelling and exploring different cultures and cuisines to refresh her soul. She also likes reading and dancing to recharge herself. She speaks English, Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil.
