Dr. Graham Williams is a Clinical Psychologist based in the Department of Psychology at the Jumeirah branch of Medcare Medical Centre. Born, raised, and educated in the United Kingdom, he is a British national and has more than two decades of experience in mental health services in the British National Health Service (NHS). He completed his Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Clinical Psychology at the University of Kent, Canterbury (UK) and completed the Doctor of Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) programme at the University of Hertfordshire (UK). He has completed numerous post-doctoral training programs, among them Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and has highly specialist training in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy. He has post-doctoral training in clinical supervision at the Oxford Doctorate in Clinical Psychology training programme and is a (UK) accredited supervisor.

He spent over a decade in specialist child and adolescent mental health services working therapeutically with children, young people (CYP) and their families in the local community as well as refugees from international cultures. As a senior psychologist, he was the service lead for trauma and provided trauma training and education to staff teams in medical and educational settings. He also worked in general paediatrics at a large, regional children’s hospital with CYP affected psychologically by medical conditions. Prior to relocating to the UAE, Dr. Williams divided his time between specialist maternity-related psychology services in the NHS and reporting to the English Courts as an Independent Expert Witness with those involved in the Family Court system.

Dr. Williams is a highly versatile clinician experienced in the assessment of psychological and emotional difficulties with CYP and adults. He developed expertise in the full range of mental health problems, including, depression and all forms of anxiety (including OCD) and the psychological impact of long-term medical conditions on CYP. He has expertise assessing and managing neurodevelopmental disorders (ADHD), maternity-related psychology, traumatic brain injury (in children and young people – the topic of his doctoral thesis) and cognitive, neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessment. He has extensive knowledge and skills in risk assessment and management (that is, with clients engaging in self-harm and suicidal behaviour).

He is trained in and uses multiple theoretical and therapeutic models (such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR)) to treat the full spectrum of mental health difficulties and their behavioural correlates.
While guided by research and the evidence base he also allows and encourages scope for creativity in working with clients to maximise positive outcomes.

He speaks English.
