Dr. Manish Raj is an Endoscopic Spine and Interventional Pain Medicine Specialist at Medcare Royal Speciality Hospital. He completed his MBBS from Tashkent State Medical University (TSMU), Uzbekistan, a Diploma in Anaesthesiology (DA) from the Dr. DY Patil Medical College, Pune, India and a Master's degree (MD) in Anaesthesiology, Critical Care & Pain Medicine from SMCH, Puducherry, India. He has completed a Fellowship in Pain Management (FPM) from AESCULAP Academy, Germany and in Interventional Spine & Pain (FISP) from the Pain Clinic of India. Additionally, he is an International Fellow of Endoscopic Spine Surgery from Nanoori Hospital, South Korea (IFENDS) and a Fellow of the Indian Academy of Pain Medicine (FIAPM). He has completed certification in neuromodulation techniques from the USA.
Dr. Raj has spent almost two decades in the field of Endoscopic Spine and Interventional Pain Medicine, having served in India and the UAE. He is credited with establishing the Interventional Pain Medicine clinic at Emirates Hospital, Jumeirah, and with leading the conversion of Mediclinic City Hospital and Mediclinic Parkview Hospital from non-interventional centres into interventional-focused pain care centres. He pioneered the first standalone Advanced Endoscopic Spine and Interventional Pain Clinic at Burjeel Hospital for Advanced Surgery, where he also served as Medical Director.
Dr. Raj’s expertise encompasses administering epidural injections, medial branch blocks, radiofrequency and cooled radiofrequency ablation, balloon compression and RFA for trigeminal neuralgia, endoscopic discectomy and decompression (lumbar and cervical), posterior facet fusion, interlaminar spacer stabilization (Minuteman), all three techniques of sacroiliac joint fusion, kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty, percutaneous laser disc decompression, spinal cord stimulation (DTM, tonic, high-frequency, and ECAP), dorsal root ganglion stimulation, intrathecal morphine pump therapy for cancer pain, and PRP therapy. He treats back pain, sciatica, neck pain, herniated disc, spinal stenosis, pinched nerve, radiculopathy, facet joint pain, sacroiliac joint pain, chronic nerve pain, persistent pain after spine surgery and degenerative spine disease.
Dr. Raj serves as the Chairperson of the Special Interest Group (SIG) for Endoscopic Spine Surgery at the Society for the Study of Pain. He has several scientific publications, books and reviews to his name. He has personally performed more than 7,000 spine procedures, including over 2,500 complex endoscopic spine surgeries. He speaks English, Hindi and Punjabi.
